The Mission of Holy Family Radio
Holy Family Radio is a lay apostolate dedicated to broadcasting the knowledge, love and practice of the Roman Catholic Faith by means of radio, internet and other media. It seeks to offer a continuous spiritual and educational gift to the people it reaches.
History
The Holy Family Radio Apostolate was organized in 2008 as a means of Catholic evangelization, education and ecumenical outreach. The desire of the apostolate is to share the life-changing message of the Gospel and the heart of the Catholic Faith with others, primarily by way of radio. This apostolate was inspired by Pope Benedict XVI’s dedication of the year June 28, 2008 – June 29, 2009 as “The Year of St. Paul - the Year of Evangelization.” - (St, Paul) It was also inspired by our beloved late Pope John Paul II’s call for a “New Springtime of Evangelization” and his belief that modern media are an indispensable means of achieving it. In Ecclesia (The Church) in America he wrote, “Using the media correctly and competently can lead to a genuine enculturation of the Gospel.”
Steady progress is being made, by the grace of God, towards the goal of fulltime Catholic Radio in West Michigan as the Holy Spirit opens more and more doors and brings many volunteers together. HFR was incorporated June 10, 2008 as a non-profit Michigan corporation.
On December 28, 2008, the Feast of the Holy Family, Holy Family Radio began airing six hours of Catholic programming on WPRR AM 1680 and on February 2nd, the Feast of The Presentation of our Lord, two hours every weekday morning on WTKG AM 1230.
