The Saint Benedict Institute and the Markets and Morality student organization at Hope College will host Dr. Catherine Pakaluk to speak on, “Paradox of Liberty: Alex Honnold and the Art of Human Freedom,” on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. in the Maas Center auditorium at Hope College. The talk will discuss the meaning of human freedom in the Catholic tradition and establish links to both Catholic social teaching and classical liberalism.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
Beginning with a narrative of Honnold’s historic climb, Pakaluk will discuss paradoxical aspects of human liberty and how it applies to John Paul II’s encyclical. From there she will explore the relationship between freedom and the principles of the free society.
