The Prodigal Son is one of the most powerful stories Jesus told and has inspired the work of artists and writers throughout the centuries. Fr. Joachim and Dr. Gerbens team up to respond to the basic issue between Jesus and the Lucan Pharisees: “Are some people outside the limits of God’s mercy?” We will look at the various “two-brother stories” in the Scriptures, e.g. Esau and Jacob, Joseph and his brothers and this Lucan parable of the “Prodigal Son”…the last one in Luke 15 of the three “losing, finding and celebrating” parables: Lost sheep, lost coin and lost son.
