St. Teresa of Avila (1515-1582)-In the face of strictures on women and a long-established spiritual mediocrity in Spanish religious life, Teresa succeed in establishing, first for women, then for men, a reformed Carmelite order focused on austerity and contemplative prayer.

St. Therese of Lisieux (1873-1897) - A girl who begged to enter the Carmelites at 15 and who died of tuberculosis at 24 became the spiritual guide of   millions during the first half of the 20th century with her “little way” of generous love found in her autobiography.
