All God’s creatures, along with their human owners, are invited to Baraga Manor from 4p.m. to 5p.m.on Friday, October 4th for the Second Blessing of the Animals. The blessing is being held during the month of October celebrating the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.
Pets will receive a blessing from Bishop Paul J Bradley, bishop of the diocese of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Light refreshments will be provided for pet owners. Donations of dog/cat food or non-clumping cat litter will be taken for the Allegan County Animal Shelter.
St. Francis of Assisi is remembered as the patron saint of animals and the environment. Born in Italy in 1182, he was noted for his commitment to justice and deep love of all creation. Francis died on October 3, 1226. The Roman Catholic Church celebrates his life and ministry each year on October 4.
There’s no doubt that pets enrich our lives. Don’t miss this opportunity to acknowledge the special relationship you have with your pet. Bring your furry, feathered or finned friend to Baraga Manor (One of the ministries of the Diocese of Kalamazoo) Blessing of the Animals. Best pet behavior and leashes are especially encouraged.
