During this program we will compare beliefs about Mary, the Mother of God from Eastern and Western Church traditions. We will explore how Mary, the model of faithful discipleship, speaks to us today. And we will look at the role and position Mary has been given by the teaching authority of each tradition. We will compare the following ideas from both the East and West perspectives:
Original Sin and its impact on the Immaculate Conception
The Dormition and Assumption of Mary into heaven
A comparison of Marian Feast Days
Prayers and Services used by each tradition to honor and venerate Mary Most Holy
The belief and role of ‘Icon’ vs ‘Statue’
Overview of how the Sacraments are celebrated in each tradition
