Category: General Souper Bowl of Caring

N/A
Tue, 2/2

Since 1990, ordinary young people have generated an extraordinary $81 million for soup kitchens, food banks and other charities for their local communities across the US. This coming February (2/2/2016), your parish has the opportunity to impact hunger in your
community by hosting a “Souperbowl of Caring.”  On the weekend of Superbowl Sunday, young people and their families stand at the doors to the church at the end of Mass with a large soup pot. Parishioners are asked to donate one dollar. The young people then send the collected donations to their charity organization of choice.

Here’s the real work involved with such a simple event: In the weeks prior, the young people investigate and understand the social causes of hunger and need, as well as, the variety of service organizations in your community or our diocese at large, such as Loaves and Fishes in Muskegon or God’s Kitchen in Grand Rapids. Then the young people come up with a creative way of presenting the learned information to the parish.
