Pope John Paul II answered the plea of Vatican II for moral
theologians to lay out the scriptural basis for the Church’s moral
teachings. His profound reading of Genesis discloses to men and women
the nuptial meanings of their bodies but even more explains the
greatest depths of the human person. The Theology of the Body
illuminates both the vocation to marriage and the vocation to
celibacy.
